ColourBLOC Photography

Welcome to ColourBloc Photography.

I am an experienced Brighton based photographer with a passion for colour and contrast. Specialising in product, lifestyle and event digital photography I work locally in Brighton and Hove and right across the Sussex county.

Colour photography is an effective and evocative means of storytelling and product selling and in a world where we are bombarded by colour and imagery everywhere, clever composition is key.

With a background rooted in architecture, I have long been drawn to angular modern buildings with hard lines, geometric shapes and symmetry, themes that are often reflected in my photographic style.

I create striking and dramatic compositions either by combining contrasting bright and bold colour matches or by anchoring big colours with a neutral to create that all important colour-pop. A technique more commonly known as colour-blocking, hence the name!

I pride myself on a modern and fresh approach to photography, and as the kind words provided by some of my wonderful clients in their testimonials hopefully suggest, I am fun, friendly, enthusiastic, well-organised and hard-working to boot!

I’m all ears if you have any ideas, projects or briefs you would like to discuss and would love to offer up some suggestions and inspiration:

About Me

I’m Clare.

I’m tempted to pretend that I’ve lived in Brighton all my life because it seems slightly more exciting than the reality but the truth is I’ve only been based in this wonderfully vibrant, diverse and inclusive community by the sea for eight of my thirty-something years.

In my previous guise I was a Press Photographer based in Berkshire, working across the most diverse of subjects conceivable. As you can well imagine no two days were the same and whilst I loved my work and the challenges it presented, moving to Brighton with my husband and having a daughter (some five years ago now) called for a little time out.

With 12 hour shifts day and night not really looking to be compatible with family life I decided to take my photography in a direction that felt more personal to me, producing images for individuals and businesses with a shared vision.

I have been so lucky to forge both long-term professional relationships and new friendships doing something I really love!

  • I recently worked with Clare from ColourBloc Photography for a funfair-themed photoshoot for my handmade jewellery brand Shh by Sadie.

Clare is a fun, friendly, talented photographer who loves bright colour as much as I do, and so we had a lot of fun dashing around Brighton Pier looking for inspiration! Clare is an experienced photographer who has an eye for colour, composition and in my case, carousel pony shots! I can’t wait to work with her again in the future and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her.

  • “Clare is an amazing person to work with – She is enthusiastic, organised & full of excellent ideas.

Clare produced some awesome photographs and turned them around quickly to fulfil a very tight deadline. I will be using her again for sure!”

  • “Clare was an absolute dream to work with – friendly and professional throughout. I initially approached Clare with some basic ideas for the photoshoot, then working together we were able to put together moodboards and a shot-list. This meant the project came together really quickly – with her creative input really helping to shape the final product.”
“During the shoot, Clare was great to work with – she really put me at ease and made the whole process a lot less stressful than I was expecting!”
